黃衡芝博士是海南坡鹿保護項目的負責人，策劃和協調關於海南坡鹿遺傳學、食性和營養學，及棲息地選擇的科學研究。她從雲南大學取得生態學的博士學位，並在中國科學院地理科學與資源研究所擔任了5年的博士後研究員，以電腦模型評估和預測氣候變化的生態效應。她是中國動物學會靈長類學分會的成員。
