An update on the Yellow-headed Temple Turtles rehomed to a conservation programme in U.S.

We are happy to inform you that one of the Yellow-headed Temple Turtles (Heosemys annandalii) that the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden helped to rehome to the United States, laid a clutch of eight eggs in January 2011 (see the TSA Blog). With the attentive care of Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) member Kenan Harkin, all of the eggs hatched after incubation in April 2011 (see the TSA Blog)! This could just be the first batch of more to come.

The turtles were confiscated by the Hong Kong Marine Police in February 2010, they were believed to be destined for food markets in South China. After rescue they were sent to our Wild Animal Rescue Centre for temporary care. A total of 48 survivors, left Hong Kong in October 2010 to join a conservation breeding programme under the TSA in the United States.

A positive outcome for this consignment of animals!
