“A Quantum Journey to Nature’s Tao” - Experiencing the unseen that moves us
1. Nature / Objectives

How does a caterpillar transform into a butterfly? How can a person that is focused on collection of money and material goods in their search for happiness, evolve into an individual that is in tune with nature, and satisfied with what they have? “A Quantum Journey to Nature’s Tao” goes beyond a mere workshop, as we dive deeper into the human psyche and the mysteries of the universe.

Our goal is to offer you a nurturing, inspiring, and open space to go deep within and explore mind-opening concepts from Quantum Physics, Taoism and Nature so we can spread our wings wider together, and be the inspiring force that this world needs.

Dr. Shantena Sabbadini and KFBG facilitators will guide this inspiring journey by guiding us through the following dimensions:
  • Quantum physics: Realizing the inseparability of mind and matter and the essential unity of the Universe
  • Taoism: Reclaiming one of the oldest Eastern wisdom traditions and discovering surprising parallels between the ancient teachings and modern scientific insights
  • Mother Nature: Reconnecting to our inner nature and the outer nature

In spite of the challenges, we’ll get through this transition, leaving our behaviours as caterpillars behind, as the Tao goes:

“When I let go of who I am, I become what I might be.”

and

“Lighten up and stop taking everything so seriously”

– said the butterfly to the caterpillar.

Get ready for a big shift, one where an old habit, way of thinking, or lifestyle is going out, and a new way of being is emerging. As the caterpillar, we humans are evolving from the current “Ego-focused individuals” to “Eco-focused community members”; people who are brave enough to claim their personal power, in order to make a positive difference.

Teacher: Shantena Augusto Sabbadini

A farmer disguised as a renowned physicist, Dr. Shantena worked as a theoretical physicist at the University of Milan and the University of California. In Milan, he researched the foundations of Quantum Physics, focusing on the description of the quantum process of observation, a problem that fascinates him to this day. In California, he contributed to the first identification of a black hole.

In the 1990’s he was a scientific consultant for the Eranos Foundation, an East-West research centre founded under the guidance of C.G. Jung in the 1930’s. In that context, he studied Chinese classics under the guidance of the Dutch sinologist Rudolf Ritsema and produced various translations and commentaries, including the Yi Jing and the Tao De Jing.

Since 2002, he has been an associate director of the Pari Center for New Learning, an alternative education institution in Tuscani, Italy. He teaches short courses at the Schumacher College, Devon, UK, and leads workshops on Taoism, quantum physics and the use of the Yi Jing as a tool for introspection.

We at KFBG are honoured to be hosting Dr. Sabaddini for the third time and honoured to be welcoming our course participants to co-create this experiential workshop.

This two-day transformative residential workshop includes the following content:

Insightful lectures and Q&A sessions by Shantena Sabbadini, a Quantum Physics and Taoism expert, covering the following topics:

  • The Rise of Science and Abstraction
  • The Quantum Revolution
  • Chaos, Order and the Nature of Life
  • A Daoist Understanding of Wholeness

Experiential activities that help us to explore the Quantum Universe and Taoist wisdom, designed and led by KFBG facilitators, including:

  • Sound relaxation with singing bowls and gongs by Mr. Tsang Man Tung, Allpamama Healing Circle
  • Eat Well Cookery Workshop
  • Herbal Salt Making Workshop
***Activities are subject to changes depending on weather conditions.

The Workshop will be a combination of lectures and experiential activities in the beautiful environment of KFBG and the Green Hub, Tai Po. As part of the learning process, participants will be invited to participate in short, daily community-service activities such as gardening, food preparation, and washing up after meals.

6. Venue

The Green Hub, at the Old Tai Po Police Station, Tai Po, and Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden

Located on a small hill at Wan Tau Kok, the Old Tai Po Police Station was the first permanent Police Station built in the New Territories in 1899. The Antiquities Advisory Board accorded the Old Tai Po Police Station Grade 1 Historic Building status in December 2009. The Development Bureau awarded the site to KFBG to transform the Old Tai Po Police Station into a 'Green Hub for Sustainable Living' under the Batch II of the "Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme".

In revitalising the Green Hub, KFBG adopted an integrated approach to conserve the historic, architectural and ecological values of the site. At the Green Hub, a range of low-carbon living programmes, and residential transformative workshops are now provided, to help individuals and organisations understand the low-carbon living alternatives to unsustainable consumption that is causing climate change and rapid resource depletion.

The ‘Revitalization of the old Tai Po Police Station into the Green Hub for Sustainable Living’ project has received awards from UNESCO and the Green Buildings Council. You may visit the Green Hub website at www.greenhub.hk for more information.
