It was a joy to return this injured Bar-tailed Cuckoo Dove to the wild on 8th May. This species, known for its beautifully iridescent green hind-neck and barred plumage, is an occasional visitor to Hong Kong.
On 18th April, the individual was found lying on the ground at the University of Hong Kong and transferred to the KFBG Wild Animal Rescue Centre. Upon arrival, it was found to be suffering from a minor bruise on its underside that suggests a collision with a building. After over 2 weeks of treatment and observation, it was back in shape.
After its successful release in woodland on our premises, it stayed within view for some time, curiously observing its surroundings.
