Plum blossom is a symbol of celebration and luck in the Spring Festival, and has been regarded as auspicious since ancient times. Plum blossom traditionally formed "The Three Friends in Winter" (歲寒三友) alongside Pine and Bamboo. The ancients believed that plum blossom was representative of the four virtues of Yuan Heng Li Zhen (元亨利貞) and the five petals of its flower, symbolize the five blessings of: joy, happiness, longevity, smooth passage and peace.
