Gaoligongshan is located in western Yunnan Province bordering Myanmar, extending from the Tibetan Plateau in the north to Indochina in the south, and is the watershed of the Irrawaddy River and the Salween River. As such, Gaoligongshan is considered one of the world’s most significant biodiversity hotspots.

Since 2014, Kadoorie Conservation China (KCC), a department of KFBG, officially collaborates with the Tengchong Bureau of Gaoligongshan National Nature Reserve (GLGS). We started off with a year-long biodiversity survey to inventory the biodiversity of this majestic forested massif. This includes the use of camera trap to monitor mammals and terrestrial birds. We have yielded a number of exciting discoveries, including the first record of the elusive Marbled Cat (Pardofelis marmorata) in 30 years for Yunnan, and a number of new-to-science species and new records for China.
