Wonders of Orchids exhibition wows families with experiential activities

Activity Report

More than 10,000 people came to see our orchid exhibition and workshop in August. Parents and children had a wonderful time painting Chinese fans, fashioning orchid handicrafts, and listening to stories at our special Nature’s Nobility – Discover the Wonders of Orchids Exhibition and Art Workshops. We logged a total of 10,400 visitors at the event that was held between 15 and 30 August at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) in Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon. As well as games and art we held interactive guided tours on orchid conservation in Southeast Asia and warned visitors against buying wild orchids.

These children are having a great time colouring in flowers and plants.

Our young guests had a lot of fun playing “Sliding into an Orchid”, a game that simulated how insects pollinate these magnificent flowers. We had two special treats for plant lovers with our bio-diversity-themed flower display in the central courtyard and a lesson on orchid growing tips delivered by our Flora Conservation Department staff at an Orchid Re-potting Workshop. But the most popular activity by far was Colouring in Silence. Visitors told us they felt very relaxed and at peace while colouring in the floral patterns and images from nature.

Children experience what happens when a flower is pollinated in our popular “Sliding into an Orchid” game.

Visitors enjoy the photo exhibition: 'Savor the Beauty of Nature'.

Our aim for this exhibition was to raise awareness about the need to protect these beautiful flowers. Let’s appreciate the beauty of the natural world and take care of our precious planet together.

Our workshop on painting orchids on Chinese fans was very popular.
