The Fauna Conservation Department (FAU) consists of three teams: Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Team (WRR), Animal Programmes and Exhibits Team (APE), and Projects Team. The full career progression pathway is outlined below.
Life at the Fauna Conservation Department
The Frontline: Professional Discipline for Wild Success
Step into the Wild Animal Rescue Centre (WARC)—the emergency room for Hong Kong’s wildlife. Here, the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Team goes far beyond basic care, combining clinical nursing, expert rehabilitation, and rewilding training. The team practices “Love from a Distance", maintaining strict professional boundaries so every rescued animal stays wild and ready to return to its natural habitat.
Guardians of Herpetofauna: Conservation in Action
The Projects Team works with diverse species, facing new challenges and creating impact every day. From responding to wild snake cases in collaboration with the police to protecting endangered species like the Golden Coin Turtle and Romer’s Tree Frog, this role combines operational caretaking with patience, calm decision-making and deep herpetological expertise. Join a team dedicated to safeguarding biodiversity through critical response and thoughtful habitat enhancement.
Ambassador Guardians: From Building Trust to Inspiring Change
Not every animal can return to the wild. For some, that opens the door to a new kind of magic — becoming a Wildlife Ambassador.
The APE team provides a lifelong sanctuary for animals affected by injury or illegal trade. This role is more than daily care: designing enrichments for their habitats while building trust with these resilient survivors, and supporting their wellbeing in the long run. The team also helps transform their stories into powerful educational experiences, inspiring visitors and raising conservation awareness.
This role is an opportunity to become a guardian of wildlife and an advocate for biodiversity.
