Every life at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Gardens tells an essential chapter in nature's story. Wild species thrive together in harmony, maintaining ecological balance. The farm's chickens demonstrate sustainable living, while ancient trees and flowering plants capture the monsoon's rhythm in their growth rings. Flowing waters nurture both crops and souls, while rescued wildlife finds sanctuary here, inspiring visitors to embrace conservation and compassion.
Life's interconnected cycles create countless natural relationships. Join our artistic dialogue as we gather the earth's fiber whispers, using our fingertips as shuttles to transform Hainan Galangal (Alpinia hainanensis) harvested and processed in KFBG into palm-sized animal sculptures. Experienced weaver Ankie from WEAVEBEING shares plant fibre characteristics, intuitive processing methods and flexible weaving techniques. Your unique interpretation becomes the most valuable element of this ecological art experience.
Each creation will become part of KFBG's 70th anniversary installation, joining a one-metre-high, three-dimensional ‘KFBG’ woven sculpture. Through this collective creation, we'll tell the story of this cherished land's seven-decade journey, express our reverence for nature and plant seeds of conservation in viewers' hearts.
As grass stems intertwine between our fingers, we weave in our wonder for the natural world. With plant resilience as our warp and collective creativity as our weft, we craft a deeper connection between humanity and all living things.
(Note: Participants in this exclusive workshop implicitly authorise their completed works to be incorporated into KFBG’s 70th anniversary art installation, creating lasting significance.)
