Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to physically walk through the vast history of Earth?
We warmly invite you to step away from the fast pace of modern life and join us in the natural surroundings of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) for a one-day "Deep Time" experience. Let us slow down, explore, and open our hearts together, listening to the deeply moving stories told by the Earth that nurtures us.
4.6 Billion-Year "Deep Time" Journey
This is not a conventional academic earth science lecture or a standard nature hike. It is an invitation from the Earth itself, guiding us step-by-step into the history of a living planet. It gently carries us beyond our everyday "ego" toward an eco-centred perspective, allowing us to deeply experience our connection with all living things and realise that we are nature itself.
Rooted in the legacy of holistic science and deep ecology pioneered by the late Dr. Stephan Harding* (co-creator of the Deep Time Walk and a teacher of the Kadoorie Earth Programme), and woven together with Kadoorie's holistic education approach, this journey engages your whole being:
- Body (Walking): We transform 4.6 billion years of geological and biological evolution into a 4.6km physical walk, using our bodies to physically embody Earth's evolutionary stages at key milestones. Each step represents one million years of Earth's history, allowing you to experience the scale of time through your breath and footsteps.
- Heart (Feeling): Explore the emotional and sensory dimensions beyond scientific data. Through guided imagery, interactive exhibits and tranquil spaces, reconnect with nature on a personal level, rediscovering a sense of awe and our ancient roots in the natural world.
- Mind (Imagining & Connecting): Drawing inspiration from the concept of Gaia and deep ecology, we invite you to rethink your position within the "Living Earth". Through philosophical reflection and practice, you will not only build resilience against ecological challenges but also deepen your profound connection with the natural world.
