This is a weekend programme specially designed for children aged 4 to 12, jointly organised by KFBG and Lai Chi Kok Public Library in November and December 2025. Through nature-themed storybooks and creative extension activities, children will embark on a journey of exploring nature and personal growth in the library – a space filled with knowledge and imagination.
Each week’s selected storybook comes from the Hong Kong Public Libraries collection, focusing on themes such as nature, ecology, emotions and self-awareness. Topics include biodiversity, nature observation, courage and hope, emotional expression and acceptance. After each storytelling session, there will be hands-on craft activities such as making paper seed, stone painting and creating calming jars, allowing children to deepen their understanding and feelings about the story themes through creative expression.
One of the sessions will feature the storybook Little Fish, written by KFBG’s Chairman, Andrew McAulay, and will take place on 6 December. This is a story about hope and transformation, set against the backdrop of Kwun Yum Shan, where KFBG is situated. It tells the story of a little fish living in a rocky pond beneath the sacred mountain who embarks on a journey seeking redemption after discord among companions leads to ecological imbalance. Through arduous leaps and magical metamorphoses, the little fish ultimately grasps the importance of compassion and empathy, and takes action to restore harmony to both nature and its community.
The programme is led by experienced facilitators, and the storybooks are rich in inspiration, encouraging children to express, explore and create, while fostering respect and appreciation for the natural world.
