Create Art with Blessings of the Forest | The Woodcraft Art Camp 2026

Giving Recycled Wood a Second Life: A Harmony of Art, Music and Life

Every fallen tree carries a story of the forest. This summer, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden invites children aged 8 to 12 to step into our Forest Woodshop and discover life within the wood. We will be using fallen trees recovered from our grounds, allowing children to use their hands and imagination to give the wood a second life. Together, we will transform fragments of nature into heartwarming art pieces for daily life. This is more than just a crafting session - it is a meaningful opportunity to deeply reconnect with the natural world.

2026-2027 Artist-in-Residence

Alvdalen|Justin Chan, Vivian Law

Alvdalen Atelier was co-founded by the wood carving artist couple, Justin Chan and Vivian Law. They believe every piece of wood carries its own unique living memory. Drawing on their interest in nature, animals and different cultures, they combine traditional carving techniques with their own creative approach to produce inclusive and warm wood sculptures.

They focus on bringing artistic sculpture together with everyday living aesthetics. For this year’s artist-in-residence programme, they are working with fallen trees in the garden, transforming them through careful carving. Their aim is to encourage greater respect for both objects and the natural environment, helping people rediscover a gentler, more thoughtful way of living through the warm quality of wood.

Kawa Wong

A nature musician and sound artist, Kawa specialises in weaving ‘sound fields’ using instruments such as the Indian bansuri flute, RAV pan drum, and khoomei throat singing, combined with live-looping technology. His practice is built on the connection between intuition and the environment, guiding participants into an ‘awake dreamy state’ – a deep rest between clarity and dreams.

Kawa has extensive experience in live performance, having held over 40 Nature Music Journeys at KFBG. He has been invited to design bespoke sound experiences for institutions such as Para Site, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, Kai Tak and Tsz Shan Monastery, with his work featured by media including Mill Milk (MM), RTHK and Phoenix TV Hong Kong. He is also frequently commissioned to design sound journeys for the Department of Health (Shall We Talk), Gucci and Cathay Pacific. Believing that the purest music stems from mindful awareness, Kawa aims to create spaces of profound stillness for the modern world.
