Wood Workshop Part-time Technician

The Holistic Education Department of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Wood Workshop Technician to join our team on a part-time basis.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting our nature art and educational programmes, which are centered on fostering a deep connection between people and nature. This position is integral to our mission of promoting trees and timber resources conservation, primarily through the creative and sustainable use of reclaimed wood.
This role is physically demanding and involves hands-on labour. The work will be conducted primarily in a semi-outdoor workshop, with access to an indoor rest area.
Major Responsibilities
- Work closely with the education officer and other carpenters to providing technical support to the programmes.
- Safely operate tools and equipment in the Wood Workshop.
- Assist instructors and participants during woodworking and related educational activities.
- Develop and prepare materials for the programmes.
- Oversee the routine operation of relevant workshop facilities.
- Maintain the workshop, including all tools, machinery, and equipment, to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
- Uphold and enforce all health and safety protocols within the workshop.
- Manage tools, equipment and materials inventory for the workshop.
- Process and preserve timber attained from tree work in KFBG.
- Log timber inventory with a record of quantities and types of wood.
- Produce wooden products and furniture occasionally.
Job Requirements
- Commitment to the mission, vision and values of KFBG.
- A Higher Diploma/Higher Certificate in a relevant subject from a recognised university or technical institute.
- OR a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject from a recognised university or technical institute.
- Preferably 2 - 3 years’ post-qualification work experience in related fields.
- Proficient knowledge and skills in woodworking.
- Good command of spoken and written Chinese. Knowledge of English is an advantage.
- A pleasant personality, team spirit, attentiveness to details and the willingness to learn.
- Highly motivated and the ability to work independently.
- Physically fit for outdoor work.
- Possession of a valid Type II driving license is an advantage.
- Possession of a higher degree and/or a valid technical certificate (e.g. Trade Test Certificate for Joiner) will be advantageous.
Appointment will initially be made on a 1-year contract, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
This position is expected to work 2-3 days per week, with a daily salary ranging from $1,000 to $1,500, depending on the candidate's experience.
