Hong Kong Flower Show 2015

Activity Report

The Hong Kong Flower Show is a major event organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to promote horticulture and the awareness of greening. In this year’s Flower Show held between 20 and 29 March 2015, the theme of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden’s display is “Cultivating Compassion for Nature”.

KFBG's display was awarded "Gold Award for Outstanding Exhibit under Displays Section (Local)". The arrangement of trees, shrubs, potted and orchids were well presented in a multi-faceted display. The Flower Show 2015 attracted 590,000 visitors in total.

Orchid conservation is one of the key messages to deliver to the visitors at the display. Urbanisation, intensive agriculture and mining have drastically reduced the extent of orchids' natural habitat, and illegal collection of orchids for the horticulture and medicinal plant trade is pushing many species to the brink of extinction.

Our choices as consumers directly influence the future of these incredible plants. Be mindful not to purchase orchids or their products (including ingredients for Traditional Chinese Medicine) that have been illegally collected from the wild. Always treat your potted hybrid orchid with compassion: love and patience can bring them back into flower year after year.
