KFBG 2017 Annual Dinner & Spring Reception

KFBG Diary

On 3rd March 2017, KFBG staff and Board members gathered for a great evening at the KFBG Annual Dinner & Spring Reception in Hong Lok Yuen, Tai Po.

As many of you know, 2016 was a special year for us, as we commemorated the 60th anniversary of KFBG. On this occasion, our Chairman, Mr. Andrew McAulay, recollected the various celebratory activities that we had arranged over the past year. The highlights were a staff hike and talks from Dr. Satish Kumar and Andrew McAulay,  a Timeline of our history, the ‘KAAA Heritage Hunt’ and ‘60 Years of Special Moments with KFBG’. Andrew vividly recalled the touching meeting when erstwhile KAAA aid recipient 90-year old Ms. Chow visited KFBG in November 2016 with her daughter to say thank you for the support of the Kadoorie family; they gave him a flower bouquet – just as she used to give Sir Horace Kadoorie every Christmas. Her story is one of the many KAAA stories we have collected from the public in the ‘60 Years of Special Moments with KFBG’ that are posted on the website. The anniversary celebrations might be over, but our conservation and education work continue apace.

During the evening, we presented Long Service Awards to four loyal staff who have worked for KFBG for over 20 years: Law Yu Bor (Supervisor), Chan Tung Ying (Foreman), Ip Sutida (Assistant Foreman) from the Sustainable Living and Agriculture Department and Amanda Crow (Conservation Officer) from the Fauna Conservation Department. Among the four, it is noteworthy – and praiseworthy – that Law Yu Bor - who has witnessed how KFBG has changed from an experimental, extension farm to an educational centre promoting conservation and sustainable living in Hong Kong and South China - has worked for KFBG for 40 years, while his three awarded colleagues have been with us for two action-packed decades.

Law Yu Bor received his second 20-year “Long Service Award” from KFBG Chairman Andrew McAulay

When Andrew McAulay presented souvenirs to each recipient he was clearly grateful and proud of the many contributions all had made to KFBG over the decades.

Sustainable Living and Agriculture Department staff took picture with Law Yu Bor, Ip Sutida and Chan Tung Ying at the Annual Dinner.

It was a wonderful evening. Quiz games and a lucky draw mid-dinner put a real sparkle into the event and everybody had an opportunity to communicate with other colleagues. It’s been a great 60 years so far – here’s to many more years of comradeship and service to the community!

A few weeks after the Annual Dinner we held a ceremony in which the four staff members each planted a rare tree seedling in the Lower Area gardens. These trees are marked and mapped as being in honour of these Long Service staff, and we hope the trees will provide fruit, shelter, a home for animals and shelter for many decades to come.
