The 7th Wild Animal Rescue Network Conference

Activity Report

Three staff of the Fauna Conservation Department, Tan Kit Sun, Tamari Yu and Toni Ngai, attended the 7th East and Southeast Asian Wild Animal Rescue Network Conference (WARN conference) from 23 to 27 November 2015 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This year, the WARN conference was hosted by the Free the Bears (Cambodia). A total of 38 international participants from 24 organisations attended the conference and shared their experiences related to animal rescue and rehabilitation.

Tamari Yu presenting ‘Challenges in deciding the long term prospects for rescued wildlife: the case for mammals’

The theme of the conference was ‘Challenges in the Reintroduction of Rehabilitated Wildlife’. A total 24 oral presentations were given. Working groups were also organised whereby interested participants could get together to discuss common issues and subjects related to wildlife rescue. Participants were invited to join a post conference tour in the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre. Everyone enjoyed the field trip and gained an insight to the wildlife rescue work in Cambodia.

The 7th WARN Conference was very successful. The next WARN conference in 2016 is to be hosted by the Wildlife Friends Foundation of Thailand.
