The presence of trees may seem quiet and still, yet they hold far more memory and history than we imagine
When you think of silent beings in nature, plants may be the first thing that comes to mind. Short and tall, blooming and fruiting; green and yellow, an array of attractive colours; unable to move, making no sound, unless the wind is passing through or an animal is walking by. These might seem like the only things they can do, and they may all appear the same. And especially trees: they are simply there.
However, trees are living beings. They have personalities and characters, much like human beings. Trees have their own styles of communication. They even carry a wealth of wisdom to share – about connection, presence and belonging.
In this workshop, participants have the chance to meet ancient trees at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, some of which may be older than KFBG itself. You are invited to listen to their different qualities and unique characteristics, to feel their steadiness and their stories. At the end of the day, we come together in a simple ritual to honour their presence – for themselves, for Mother Earth, and for the quiet, constant way they continue to support us.
Workshop Activities
The experiential activities* in this workshop provide an opportunity for participants to explore and practice the following aspects:
- Learn more about the components of trees and their systems.
- Develop stability in body, mind and spirit, like a tree.
- Tour around the trees in different areas at KFBG.
- Experience a connection to trees, their qualities, and characteristics, and how they can support us.
- Participate in a ritual to honour the presence of trees.
*Note: the workshop’s agenda and contents may be modified depending on weather conditions, and other external factors, in accordance with Dr Claire Elouard’s professional advice.
