Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden to host the 1st “Nature Hikeathon & Treasure Hunt @KFBG” Charity Event
(Hong Kong – September 7, 2021) Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) will be hosting the first "Nature Hikeathon & Treasure Hunt" charity event on November 13-14, 2021. The event commemorates the Kadoorie Brothers' legacy and their efforts to alleviate poverty and features an 8 km mountain route challenge, a Treasure Hunt in the natural environment, and a wide array of intriguing nature-themed activities in the Nature Bazaar for participants to enjoy while raising funds for nature conservation.
Participants will be required to undertake a Covid test themselves at home and bring the test device, which shows a negative result, on the event day before admission. Each participant will receive the rapid antigen test device from KFBG a few days before the event.
Nature Hikeathon @KFBG
An 8km Hikeathon will take place on Saturday November 13. Participants will pass by the most scenic parts of KFBG, including the iconic Kwun Yum Shan and Kadoorie Brothers’ Memorial Pavilion, the 4 Pillars from the old Central Post Office, Signpost Corner, and the Rainbow Pavilion. Along the way, participants can know more about Hong Kong’s fauna and flora, get a taste of the Farm’s famous Roselle tea, and enjoy stunning views of the Kam Tin Valley and Tai Po countryside.
The Hikeathon participants will be required to finish the designated tasks at 4 checkpoints along the route and record their achievements by scanning chips. The checkpoint tasks demonstrate to participants how KFBG has contributed to ecosystem resilience, wildlife rehabilitation, and reconnecting humanity and nature since its foundation as the Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Association (KAAA) by the Kadoorie Brothers in the 1950s.
Hikeathon checkpoints:

Treasure Hunt @KFBG
On Sunday November 14, our centre turns into a treasure hunt playground. Participation as an individual or a family or company team (2 to 4 persons) is welcome. Participants can explore twenty checkpoints set in the Lower Farm area and Mid Farm locations. Each checkpoint will inspire and delight players with an engaging and fun activity.
Participants can go to different checkpoints within a limited time to complete relevant tasks and then record their scores to win corresponding rewards. When completing the tasks, participants will interact with nature to learn about a great variety of wildlife and seasonal produce, and experience the connection between humans and the natural environment.
Treasure Hunt checkpoints:
Sun Garden Animal Exhibit | Rainbow Pavilion |
Walter Kerr Garden | Cascade Garden |
Nature Bazaar
Open exclusively to all participants of the Nature Hikeathon and Treasure Hunt @KFBG, the Nature Bazaar will take place in the afternoon of both event days (November 13-14) in the Lower Farm area. A series of relaxing and fun-packed activities include Adventure Tree Climbing, which is open for registration with limited places available. Other activities include workshops, exhibits, animal discovery table, and thematic guided tours, which cover introductions to our seasonal greens and agriculture facilities.
Souvenirs and prizes
Each participant will receive a unique wood coaster crafted from an end-of-life tree at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. This rare gift from nature is a reminder that we are all ambassadors for harmonising our relationship with the environment.
Purposes of donations
All funds raised through the event will go towards KFBG’s nature-based programmes for wildlife conservation, holistic education, and sustainable living, in our mission towards harmonizing our relationship with the environment.
